With the human need to feel connected to nature as a starting point, Espai Sakura is inspired by the Japanese Hanami festival. The cherry blossom - or sakura - blooms for the first time, welcoming spring and turning the landscape pink. During the days of Hanami, family and friends gather under the cherry blossoms to celebrate the arrival of the most colourful months of the year.
This project by the Nada Lab investigates the need to equip a passing space to turn it into a functional, biophilic, flexible and inspiring area.
Espai Sakura is a self-contained space that evokes the cherry blossom that gathers its five petals around the ovule or connection point. The petals can randomly disintegrate away from the ovule or form a chain between them. As the petals approach the nucleus, they are illuminated by a pleasant sunlight that is sifted through the natural rope covering them, creating a magical and mysterious moment.
Represented by different shades of carpeting, the petals, moved by the wind as in gardens, fall to the pavement forming a seductive carpet of pink, brown and grey tones.
A place designed for meeting, relaxation and an invitation to activate the emotions. Like a flower, Espai Sakura is waiting to be polonized with ideas to become the fruit of creativity.
